Christina Hendricks hosted a Whisky Party

Whiskey has a certain image that fits in well with the TV show Mad Men – the tale of Ad Men working hard in the Sixties.

One of the stars of the show is Christina Hendricks who likes a drink of whisky. In fact she enjoys it so much she hosted a private dinner and Johnnie Walker pairing at the penthouse of the Chateau Marmont, Los Angeles.

The LA Times have more on the event.

The evening unfolded with close friends of Hendricks on the terrace—including her husband, actor Geoffrey Arend, and whiskey master Stephen Wilson—sipping Johnnie and Gingers (Johnnie Walker Red Label and ginger ale) and Blood and Sands (Johnnie Walker Red Label, orange juice, sweet vermouth and cherry syrup) and nibbling from plates of bacon-wrapped dates and teeny beef Wellingtons.

Hendricks played the perfect hostess (everything about her draws you in, from her personable I’ve-known-you-my-whole-life air and her cat-like eyes right down to her chandelier Swarovski crystal earrings), while guests looked over the terrace balcony to views that stretched from the L.A. Times building downtown to Century City and places beyond.

After modestly enjoying our cocktails, we were called in to dinner, where the table was set dramatically with blood red peonies, roses and candles. Wilson, who had flown out from the East Coast for the occasion, gave us the history of whiskey and a demonstration before each course, which included passing around peated and unpeated barley seeds for us to smell.

Wilson ended the evening with “There’s only one proper way to enjoy a whiskey—however the heck you want!” For the big finish, everyone received a bottle of Johnnie Walker Blue Label engraved in gold dust with a message of their choosing. One guest opted for her boyfriend’s pet name, while another chose to wish her father a Happy 60th.

Hendricks, whose series has almost single-handedly introduced whiskey to the younger generation, agreed: “We drink it on the show, we drink it in real life.” Validating that there is such a thing as a perfect pair.
