The Official Ceremony: Magna Carta Foundation of Liberty

An official ceremony to commemorate the 800th anniversary of the sealing of Magna Carta took place on Runnymede Meadows on Monday 15 June 2015.

Event Hire supplied and laid out 4000 folding chairs for the event which was attended by Her Majesty The Queen and was organised by Surrey County Council and the National Trust.

Runnymede is synonymous with the words ‘Magna Carta’ as this was the place on 15 June 1215 that King John agreed to have the ‘Great Charter’ sealed. This event has later become recognised as one of the most important events in English history as it marked the road to individual freedom, parliamentary democracy and to the supremacy of law.

Magna Carta is one of the most famous documents in the world. Explore its 800-year legacy with unique collection items, newly-commissioned articles by leading experts, videos and animations and a range of teaching resources. School groups can alsocontribute a clause towards a new Magna Carta for the digital age.

Book tickets for Magna Carta: Law, Liberty, Legacy. Open until Tuesday 1 September 2015.

You can watch a time lapse video below that shows Event Hire setting up the 4000 folding chairs.
